Birds of the world

Seeing many birds around but i didn't know the names. However, recently I was gifted <3 the book " Collin Birds guide" about birds of Europe . This develops more the curiosity and enthusiasm around knowing more of the birds, at least some basic information. So far i really like the book: very informative with precise pictures to recorgnize them. I love how they describe the sound of the bird as well. Putting down here the birds I found to remember myself about them :).

I would love to have birds freely live in my garden, but I guess my cat also loves it in a different way :D...So let's leave it for now.

DateHow I found and their names
02/04/2021Oystercachers
Saw several of them on Texel island, De Koog beach . They have a bit mixed of black and white in their necks. It was very wide and windy and cold beach, but they didn't really care, they were still searching for food. It's said that their main food are oysters, mussels...(such luxurious for us :D )
Ring-necked Pheasant (there are many types of Pheasant)
Also on Texel island, in the camping area while we were walking from pier 20-21. There were 2/3 at least we saw, they look beautiful with the nice tails. My first thought would be its Peacock (silly :D )
14/03/2021Moorhen
It's a familiar bird on the canals. Looks like coots, but they have red heads and white&black tails. They have quite fun jerking heads when swimming and tails when walking
Black headed gull
Look different from the normal gull because (as the name stated) of the white body and black head. They look beautiful on the canal
great crested grebe
J. and I are debating if what we saw was actually that bird. They look beautiful, yet with the normal eyes looking into the canal, its tough to confirm this :)
13/03/2021Tufted Duck
We saw male adults black Duck with white side. This is more rare in compare to normal Ducks

Cormorants (chim cốc)
There were 2 of them, one stayed on the branch and another was fishing on the canal. They look of the same size, but so distinguish black in compare to Greyheron
Interesting fact: Cormorants were/are used by Chinese and Japanese from ancient till now for fishing :)

Blackbirds

Blue tit
The sound is short. small bird with a green belly. It has a bit blue wing, white head with a black strip around the eyes
In the beginning, I mistook it for Great tit (which i saw another day in my garden), but the white head with a black strip around the eyes completely differentiate the blue tit from the great tit.

 09/04/2022 - chiffchaff
We were in the park near home and this bird sang continuously on a branch. Its colour is like lemon under the sun. What a name
08/04/2023 - Blue rock thrush
In Delphi temple, we suddenly saw a dark blue shining bird on top of the Apollo temple column - like they own it. Turn out to be that one
11/04/2023 - Goldfinch:
Saw it freely (not in a cage) for the first time in the Aristotle School of Athens. We were not sure which bird was without binoculars, but it was so clear and beautiful to watch with our binoculars. We were happy
15/04/2023 - Willow Warbler
15/04/2023 - Young black cap

Instead of having a black cap, it has dark red cap

This table i'd like to keep up as my bird dictionary

A zoo experience

Recently, I got interested in Coral reefs after reading a report on how coral reefs affects the biodiveristy . I read that the Burgers's zoo in Arnhem   has successfully bred tropical coral reefs , so we have to visit it. We arrived a little bit late so we had only 3h before it closed (at 5pm) to explore. It was a cold winter day, yet the sun was shining, which made it nicer to see the zoo view. The penguins welcomed us right after the entrance, they look so funny and chill. And it smelled very fishy - from the fishes that they ate. As we thought we didn't have enough time, so we head straight direction of the Ocean's part. We however got attracted by another experience - the tropical forest. Entering it was warm, and i felt immediately like I'm in Vietnam. They managed to mimic the warm humid tropical climate in such a nice cold country. Now I've already think my 29e zoo ticket worth its price :). I heard a lot of births chirping with different sounds and tone...

Cuộc dạo chơi cùng em mèo béo

Today is quite a sunny day.  After the recent cloudy, foggy and cold days, getting some nice sun is a treasure. After lunch, we decided to go for a walk around the house and to run some errands. I left Nam outside just at lunch time so he was still around at the front door when we got out. Should he be in our out? I'm always more cautious and want him to be inside while we are not home. But he, probably just like us, missing the sun, didn't get in the house. We said, well, let's go, he will be fine. But...Nam started following us. He's like 2 or 3 meters behind us, not so close, but not so far. He was actually running quite happily.  Nam- close to home, more confident, and at the big road more careful It's one block from my house, and Nam was still following. He's a bit careful, from time to time looked around and looked back, maybe to check where he was. He actually looked a bit like detective dog following us. I was still scared, asked J. if he could catch Nam...

Norway 3: Kayaking, glacier hiking and us

It felt like a movie when I woke up in the morning and opening the cabin’s door. In front of me was a large and beautiful lake, next to it was a huge and wide mountain. Some early sunlight got through the water just created a perfect scene. We had a typical roadtrip’s breakfast with slides bread, ham & cheese on a picnic table chair on the grass in-between the cabin and lake but it felt like eating wonderful food because of the view. “Meal with a view” is a common phase we used in our trip. Just stopped by somewhere, took the sandwich out, and you’ve got an amazing view to accompany your meal. Back to our breakfast, while we were silently admiring the nature, an active lady was kayaking on the lake. The view of her, the water tail created by the kayaking and the kayaking itself made a perfect morning picture. This is the first time I stayed in a cabin so its completely a new experience. Later on the trip we stayed over 3 more cabins and they were also different. But I would describ...
