Work from home, 1 year anniversary

Yesterday I received a tulip bouquet from my company thanking for 1 year working from home (WFH). It indeed changed drastically way of working for me, my colleagues, and many percentage of the workers. For me, it was from 1 day WFH to full time WFH, it was expected till May 2020, then September 2020, and summer 2021. Now I've already not checking when to go back to the office anymore. Before, I've always said, I couldn't become a Freelancer because I couldn't work full time at home -- this pandemic proves that I was wrong. I adapted to it (with up and down of course). So this is the sum-up of my (unbelievable) 1 year WFH.

Tulip from the company and the boy

Work place: I first worked in the middle of living room where I usually worked on Friday. Then felt uncomfortable and moved to bedroom - working on a small table and kitchen chair. My back didn't feel well, then moved back to the bright corner of the living room, where I used J. big table (and he moved to my cat's room). I got a new chair and screen from the company. This has been my workplace till now and I'm very happy with it. The living room has been changed in a really green, spacious way as well.

Sport: Before I went for sports like Yoga, Zumba, Pilates, PoleFitness several times per week in different places in Utrecht using OneFit card. Its not the case anymore. Now Youtube is the best friends in term of exercise. Doing exercise at home with J. is also a new experience, and now is our regular activity in the evening. I went back to PoleFitness online and its quite comfy. I still miss a bit of the exercise in group.

The down:

I tend to work more (like the feeling, "let me try to finish this task, then I can finish my day") because I didn't have to get up and cycle back home. I'm literally HOME...some days when the work didn't run smoothly, my mood was very down, the feeling of incompetent. That affected me the whole evening. Those time, I wish I was at the office, talking to colleagues, or just being in the office would help.

No travelling far was really a disappointment. All travel plans got cancelled (including trips to Italy and Vietnam and Spain). My last travel abroad was back to Vietnam, end of Jan 2020. The year before we travelled a lot, and suddenly stopped was not easy. We did some small trips in NL but its not the same...

The up

I have more time to study. Indeed I postponed my Dutch study till I can't, and last year was a push, I finished the Inbugering exam. I took the AWS certificate. I tried Calligraphy, and quite some other studies that I always said "I have no time". I realized, as long as I want, I can dedicate time :).

We did the gardening. I have a small garden, but its always covered with wild weed and soil. It felt so much work to just started it, but it took like a month to finish it. I now have a 2 small squares in the garden where I planted herb and vegetable.

Challenge our relationship. 24/7 (almost) being with each other is a quite strange thing at first. Before, we knew about each other's work only by talking when we got home after work. Now, its just by a wall separated rooms.

Knowing a lot more about corners in Utrecht, just because we can't go any far. Also knowing more cities in NL.

The hope:

Of course, everything comes back to normal :). That would be great if I can come back to Vietnam in September

A zoo experience

Recently, I got interested in Coral reefs after reading a report on how coral reefs affects the biodiveristy . I read that the Burgers's zoo in Arnhem   has successfully bred tropical coral reefs , so we have to visit it. We arrived a little bit late so we had only 3h before it closed (at 5pm) to explore. It was a cold winter day, yet the sun was shining, which made it nicer to see the zoo view. The penguins welcomed us right after the entrance, they look so funny and chill. And it smelled very fishy - from the fishes that they ate. As we thought we didn't have enough time, so we head straight direction of the Ocean's part. We however got attracted by another experience - the tropical forest. Entering it was warm, and i felt immediately like I'm in Vietnam. They managed to mimic the warm humid tropical climate in such a nice cold country. Now I've already think my 29e zoo ticket worth its price :). I heard a lot of births chirping with different sounds and tone...

Cuộc dạo chơi cùng em mèo béo

Today is quite a sunny day.  After the recent cloudy, foggy and cold days, getting some nice sun is a treasure. After lunch, we decided to go for a walk around the house and to run some errands. I left Nam outside just at lunch time so he was still around at the front door when we got out. Should he be in our out? I'm always more cautious and want him to be inside while we are not home. But he, probably just like us, missing the sun, didn't get in the house. We said, well, let's go, he will be fine. But...Nam started following us. He's like 2 or 3 meters behind us, not so close, but not so far. He was actually running quite happily.  Nam- close to home, more confident, and at the big road more careful It's one block from my house, and Nam was still following. He's a bit careful, from time to time looked around and looked back, maybe to check where he was. He actually looked a bit like detective dog following us. I was still scared, asked J. if he could catch Nam...

Norway 3: Kayaking, glacier hiking and us

It felt like a movie when I woke up in the morning and opening the cabin’s door. In front of me was a large and beautiful lake, next to it was a huge and wide mountain. Some early sunlight got through the water just created a perfect scene. We had a typical roadtrip’s breakfast with slides bread, ham & cheese on a picnic table chair on the grass in-between the cabin and lake but it felt like eating wonderful food because of the view. “Meal with a view” is a common phase we used in our trip. Just stopped by somewhere, took the sandwich out, and you’ve got an amazing view to accompany your meal. Back to our breakfast, while we were silently admiring the nature, an active lady was kayaking on the lake. The view of her, the water tail created by the kayaking and the kayaking itself made a perfect morning picture. This is the first time I stayed in a cabin so its completely a new experience. Later on the trip we stayed over 3 more cabins and they were also different. But I would describ...
