| As beginner birdwatchers, it's amazed to see how many types of birds Galicia has. Just at the backyard of J's garden, everyday many birds passing by. We developed a habit of searching for birds as soon as we got out to the balcony. The book "Collins bird guide" assists us very well in identifying them. Pictures taken (mostly with zoom in camera -> not the best quality though :) ) then search it in the book.Voila!!!. Different birds have different habits which are really interesting to see. Sparrows sometimes rub their body to the soil and turn around, just like cats. Swifts and swallows tend to fly ceaselessly around, like kites. bfly like they loose their balance). While I'm writing this article (at the balcony and with lots of sun) - a Red Robin just perched on a lemon branch, looked around and flew away. Some birds seen in Galicia including: | The closet picture I took of a house sparrow was actually at Schiphol airport haha |
| Black Redstart | First saw them in J parents garden. They have some parts of the tails red |
| Swallows: The bird of spring. | First saw while we were walking in a village close by. They tend to like more fields than cities. They fly fast and elegant, like dancing queen. |
| Swift: shape a bit like swallows but more brown | First saw them fly by the river in the town. They can fly 9months without hitting the ground. It felt a bit like they arre in hurry |
| Coal tits: of the same style with great tits and blue tits | They however have more coal, white color. I don't see them so much here |
| Wren: Very small with the tail always pointing up | It basically can perch in any places: on the side of vertical stick - looks like gym, a small branch... and the sound is so strong for its size |
| white wag tail | the "wag tail" I guess coming from the fact that their tail really move so rapidly from side to side as they move/fly. |
| Grey wag tail: actually a bit more yellow. | They look very colourful. |
| Greenfinch: of the finch family, look green | Seen less common in here but they look outstanding in the garden. We have been searching for Goldfinch-which is very common here but haven't found it yet |
Recently, I got interested in Coral reefs after reading a report on how coral reefs affects the biodiveristy . I read that the Burgers's zoo in Arnhem has successfully bred tropical coral reefs , so we have to visit it. We arrived a little bit late so we had only 3h before it closed (at 5pm) to explore. It was a cold winter day, yet the sun was shining, which made it nicer to see the zoo view. The penguins welcomed us right after the entrance, they look so funny and chill. And it smelled very fishy - from the fishes that they ate. As we thought we didn't have enough time, so we head straight direction of the Ocean's part. We however got attracted by another experience - the tropical forest. Entering it was warm, and i felt immediately like I'm in Vietnam. They managed to mimic the warm humid tropical climate in such a nice cold country. Now I've already think my 29e zoo ticket worth its price :). I heard a lot of births chirping with different sounds and tone...
